Samancor's ferro chrome division is pleased with the time it is saving with the Fluke 744 documenting process calibrator that it bought from Spescom MeasureGraph (SMG). The Fluke 744 is used in Ferro Chrome's Instrumentation Department for mA in/out, mV in/out, TC in/out and highway addressable remote transducer communication (HART).
Instrumentation Technician Kobus van Zyl says the Fluke 744 was chosen because it incorporates calibration and HART communication capability in a single fast unit. "It is an all in one instrument that complies completely with our requirement. With the Fluke 744, instrumentation technicians and engineers can quickly and accurately measure and source a host of process variables, including pressure, temperature, loop current, voltage and frequency. The Fluke 744 is saving us time and has improved our productivity."
SMG Product Specialist Morné Maree agrees: "Previously, instrument technicians have had to use two separate units to calibrate and maintain HART transmitters. The Fluke 744 combines these functions. It comes with the most complete HART implementation of any process calibrator and can be upgraded to support changes in the HART standard.
"The integrated HART communication functions enable the user to monitor, control and calibrate HART instrumentation. The 744 can be used to 'query' other HART devices to determine their type, manufacturer, model and serial numbers. The 744 fully complies with the data link layer of the HART protocol, addressing multiple masters, burst mode and multidrop configurations. Moreover, the 744's 2 MB of memory provides device-specific support for a wide range of popular transmitters."
