The Metrix Model 5484 vibration sensor from PREI Instrumentation has been upgraded without any increase in price. A wider frequency response and the availability of a dynamic signal output are some of the features of the new 'E' version and it is no longer polarity sensitive. Monitoring rotating machinery is made simpler and more cost effective, with the benefit that comes from monitoring vibration: the reduction of unexpected breakdowns and production losses.
Simply screwing the solid-state sensor into a 1/4 NPT tapped hole in the machine, and connecting its two wires to a 4-20 mA control loop, the Model 5484 will transmit the machine's vibration level to a process control computer, data logger or monitor. Using an accelerometer that is epoxy encapsulated into a stainless steel housing (rated IP65), the Model 5484 can be mounted in any orientation. It works off a 10 to 30 V d.c. supply, it is temperature rated -40 to 100°C, and is suitable for use in hazardous locations.
Various options include terminal block instead of leads, high and low pass filters, different mounting studs, and RMS or peak-to-peak calibration.
