Adding multiloop temperature control to a PLC system

An OEM that builds extruders wanted to integrate dedicated PID controllers, and an Allen Bradley SLC503 PLC, into a single operator interface. The DLC - dual loop controller was chosen to perform the PID control, and the Paradigm TX700T was chosen as the interface. The Paradigm's three serial ports, and multiprotocol capability, allows it to communicate to both the SLC and the DLCs.
The customer connected the Paradigm's RS485 port to the PLC's DH485 port. Since the Paradigm's two remaining ports are RS232, and the DLC is RS485, a converter was necessary.
The ICM5 provides a DB-9 connector for its RS232 side, and an RJ-11 connector for the RS485 side. Using the ICM5 and standard RLC cables, the customer was able to convert both the electrical and physical properties of the two standards with one device.
