In industrial applications the human eye quickly reaches its limits as far as recognising fine differences in colour. For example, artificial or fluctuating lighting can falsify colours and when equipment is moving at high speeds only a fraction of a second is available for determining the colour - much too fast for the human eye to do the job accurately.
The Series 22 colour sensors from Baumer are designed for recognising colour in just such applications. The sensors have Baumer's easy to use 'teach-in' facility whereby four colours can be programmed into the sensor by pressing a button. The tolerance can be set separately in each case. The scanning distance is 40 mm and the colour recognition can be triggered externally. A highly visible light spot facilitates optimal alignment with the target.
Target size is > 3 x 6 mm and the speed of the object to be measured needs to allow for a sensor response time of 200 µs. Compact, and incorporating a rotating plug - with the housing dimensions 50 x 50 x 23 mm - the new Series 22 presents a solution well-suited to confined conditions where space is at a premium.
