Level switches for pharmaceutical powder measurement
October 2002Operator Interfaces, Switches & Relays
Vibrating level switches are a proven measuring option for a variety of solids-handling applications in many industries. The main advantages of vibrating switches are the fact that they are independent of changing product characteristics (unlike capacitive level switches) and they can be fail-safe (unlike paddle switches).
However, the hygiene requirements of pharmaceutical industry powder applications require special considerations. Although tuning fork level switches are an industry standard for liquids applications, a tuning fork level switch for solids is not easy to clean and product can become trapped between the tines of the fork.
The Vegavib 40/50 series are a range of highly polished, single rod vibrating level switches with a clean and crevice-free finish. They are used within the pharmaceutical and food industries with optional Tri-Clamp fitting, allowing easy inspection. The pulsed oscillation reduces build-up of product and the device will operate from -40 to +150°C with pressures as high as 1 MPa (10 bar).
