Vibration switch shrinks to the limit

August 2002 Operator Interfaces, Switches & Relays

Instrumentation specialist Endress+Hauser has expanded its modular system of vibration limit switches for liquids with the release of the Liquiphant FTL 20, a compact, rugged design suited for installation in places not easily accessible and for mounting in any position.

Liquiphant FTL20 features a number of advantages over competitive measuring principles such as capacitance or conductive limit switches, float switches, optic sensors and gap switches. Where these measuring principles struggle due to build-up, conductivity, turbulence, currents and air-bubbles, the vibrating fork measuring principle as demonstrated by Liquiphant FTL20 succeeds.

"The vibration limit switch is particularly suitable for overspill protection, minimum or maximum detection in coolant or lubricant containers, in cleaning and filtering facilities and dry running pump protection, as found in plant automation and machine tool construction," informs Grant Joyce, Endress+Hauser spokesperson.

In addition, the small vibrating fork - a mere 38 mm in length - and the thread connections of 1/2" and 3/4" ensure universal application. To enhance usability the transparent rear part of the switch indicates current switch status or failure, adding to the reliable and maintenance-free design. Liquiphant FTL20 variants are available for PLC, ASI bus or AC connections.
