New ASi modules - more features in less space

Full compatibility with the latest ASi 2.1 specification, enhanced diagnostics, infrared addressing and an IP65 protection rating are among the key benefits of the new Classic Line ASi slave modules from IFM Electronic. The new modules retain all the benefits of their successful predecessors, including suitability for use with both flat ASi cable and ordinary round cable.
Support for the ASi 2.1 specification means that, by using Classic Line modules, users can connect up to 62 slaves to a single ASi master, rather than just 31, as with first-generation modules. This doubling of I/O capacity provides significant cost savings, particularly in larger installations, as well as simplifying system design.
To allow users to take full advantage of the increased I/O capacity and to provide maximised versatility, the new modules are offered with a wide choice of I/O combinations, including the often requested four input four output versions - which were not previously available.
The facility for infrared addressing provided by the new modules is another major advance. Users simply connect an infrared equipped addressing unit to the module and enter the required address. The whole addressing operation is carried out without the need to remove the module from its base. It is now convenient, therefore, to perform addressing after the modules have been installed on the plant providing extra flexibility and reducing the risk of errors.
The enhanced diagnostic system used in Classic Line modules allows them to differentiate between communication errors and faults associated with the connected actuator or sensor. The type of problem is signalled visually by LEDs and is also reported to the control system via the ASi network. This clear indication of fault type greatly eases and speeds faultfinding and remedial work.
ASi Classic Line modules have the same base dimensions as their older counterparts, allowing them to be used with standard bases. These are available with screw terminals and PG-gland cable entries. The height of the new modules has been reduced compared with older types, making them easier to accommodate in applications where space is restricted.
