Switches International has introduced a cost effective range of speed transducers to its product range of sensors. These transducers operate on the principle where mechanical motion is converted into AC voltage. This generated AC voltage has a frequency that is proportional to the rpm/speed of the tooth gear or actuator. However, the magnitude (above the minimum voltage) is determined by the size of actuator and its proximity to the sensor.
Designed for high reliability, these sensors are manufactured in stainless steel housings, although aluminium bodies are also available. Sizes range include diameters of 6,5 mm, 16 mm and 19 mm at various lengths. Termination options include socket connections, or potted-in leads. Operational temperature is from -60 to +105°C, with high temperature options available up to 500°C.
Typical voltages generated are 40 and 190 V, although 60 and 175 V units are available for special applications. These transducers are generally applied as magnetic pick-ups and on automotive and turbine engines.
