Lightning protection for office and domestic use

May 2002 Electrical Power & Protection

Surge Technology's locally designed and manufactured SurgeGuard range of lightning protectors are available in three types to protect computer networks, fax machines, video recorders, satellite decoders and home computers against power surges and lightning strikes.

The SurgeGuard SAT unit provides protection against lightning and overvoltage simultaneously on both the 230 V power supply and the antenna inputs. Their two 16 A power sockets are able to discharge surge currents of up to 6,5 kA and on the antenna outputs up to 10 kA.

Suitable for transient protection of electronic power equipment, the SurgeGuard COMP protects PCs, typewriters, electronic laboratory equipment, microwave ovens, music centres and similar apparatus.

The SurgeGuard Telefax provides protection on both the power supply and RJII telecom lines. Suitable for modems, cordless telephones, fax and answering machines, the unit has a surge handling ability of up to 6,5 kA on the mains and 10 kA on the telephone line. The second power socket can be used to protect a PC or other sensitive electronics.

In addition to surge protection, the SurgeGuard Snake is an accessory that provides more efficient cable management and power distribution for the small business and home computer user.
