Creation of Bosch Rexroth leads to local merger

April 2002 News

Following the recent European merger of Bosch Automation and Rexroth, local Bosch distributor Pneumatic Automation Technologies will be incorporated into Hytec Group subsidiary Tectra Automation as from 1 March 2002. Previously, Rexroth Pneumatics, Drives and Controls was represented in southern Africa by Tectra Automation, while Pneumatic Automation Technologies (PAT) represented Bosch Pneumatics and Assembly Technology.

"Apart from the clear synergies that we shared, it made sense to become a single, more effective source of product supply, technology transfer and customer service that would dovetail with and benefit from the new Bosch Rexroth company," says PAT director, Keith Berning. "The merger also reflects the Hytec Group strategy of offering a total solution to the fluid power industry."

"We will now be the only company in the South African market offering Source One Supply and a total solution from one company," said Tectra MD, Bevil Blaine. Locally, the company will be the third largest in its field and will aim to increase market share in pneumatics, linear, aluminium profiling, materials handling and AC servo drives. Tectra Automation's Star linear division, together with the FMS and ALU-Star aluminium profiling divisions, will be unrivalled in southern Africa, while Rexroth's Indromat range of AC drives and controls will further strengthen the new company's selection of services and products.

"We are very confident in saying that customers can look forward to vastly improved product ranges and service of the highest quality," says Blaine, adding that the company was due to move into its new Meadowdale offices on the East Rand by the end of February 2002.
