IT service leader wins R1,5m Anglo Platinum contract

April 2002 News

CS Holdings has been awarded a R1,5 million contract to upgrade the control system infrastructure at Anglo Platinum's Amandelbult mine near Rustenburg.

"The project forms part of Anglo Platinum's information delivery strategy to consolidate information from its various sites at its research centre in Germiston," explains Piet de Villiers, director of the industrial and mining business unit of CS Holdings. "We will be responsible for the standardisation of the industrial systems at the plant. The initial contract is for the first phase of the implementation, and involves the consolidation of data from all production control systems into one central database. Future phases will involve integration of this consolidated data with data warehouse and production information systems, to enable Anglo Platinum management to extract an integrated view of the entire production process and thereby improve their forecasting and decision making ability.

The Anglo Platinum group is the world's leading primary producer of platinum group metals. The group comprises the holding company, Anglo Platinum and its wholly owned subsidiaries: Rustenburg Platinum Mines RPM, Potgietersrust Platinums and Lebowa Platinum Mines. Anglo Platinum is listed on the Johannesburg and London stock exchanges, and is also represented on the Brussels Bourse by means of international depository receipts.

Its operations, comprising six mines, two smelters, a base metals refinery and a precious metals refinery, are situated in the Northern and North West provinces. The operations exploit the world's richest reserve of platinum group metals, known as the Bushveld Complex. Although platinum group metals are the primary products of these operations, base metals such as nickel, copper and cobalt sulphate are important by-products.

CS Holdings is one of South Africa's leading business consulting and IT services firms, with a nationwide infrastructure and staff of IT, engineering and business professionals. The group specialises in tailoring one-stop, integrated system solutions for large, corporate and public sector enterprises, from a broad suite of integrated application and technology service offerings across the range of processes, technology and people requirements.
