Range of Ethernet communications products now available

April 2000 Fieldbus & Industrial Networking

In a new and exclusive southern African agency agreement, Systems and Automation Management (SAM) will be distributing a range of German designed and manufactured communications products for the remote monitoring and maintenance of Siemens equipment. The INAT range is designed to interface directly and easily with Siemens PLCs to facilitate fast and simple Ethernet communications.

Three key products form the core of this range which has proven interchangeability in a Siemens operating environment. "We are very excited about this range and the choice which it now affords the local market. The products are simple to install and reliable and, at last, someone has made ‘talking’ to Siemens easy!" explains SAM's Durban-based INAT Product Manager, Pauline Bullock.

The three key products are the Echolink which converts from Siemens serial protocols to Ethernet; the DDE and OPC servers for Siemens industrial protocols and cost-effective communications interface cards for Siemens PLC's.

The INAT Echolink is a smart Ethernet interface for PLCs and programming devices that is able to communicate with S5 90U, S5 95U or an S5 100U via an Ethernet network without any network adapters. Configuration software is provided with the unit. The second key product is the INAT OPC and DDE servers. These products will significantly reduce the interfaces in a plant and were developed to link process visualisation systems such as InTouch, WinCC and FIX to TCP/IP or H1 networks for communication with S5 and S7 controllers. The INAT TCP/IP interface cards connect Siemens programmable controllers with each other or with other devices such as visualisation and control computers and can be used with both TCP/IP and H1 hardware simultaneously and in parallel.

SAM's extensive experience as system integrators ensures high levels of product and installation support. Technical support will be offered from both the Johannesburg and Durban offices and special stocking arrangements are in place with INAT in Germany to ensure efficient delivery on INAT's full range of network components and devices.
