Power quality and energy analyser

October 2017 Maintenance, Test & Measurement, Calibration

South Africa’s cost of power is increasing at an alarming rate and users of power are being asked to save energy wherever possible to help prevent future power cuts. Industry and facilities alike are looking for ways to conserve energy in order to reduce ever-escalating energy bills.

Fluke has come up with a solution for this crisis where not only does its offering give the best in power quality analysis, but also has the ability to quantify energy losses in monetary terms. The answer is the Fluke 430 series II Power Quality and Energy Analyzers. The energy analysis capability gives electricians the ability to determine how much power is being wasted and calculate exactly the extra consumption costs.

Fluke 434, 435 and 437 series II models help locate, predict, prevent, and troubleshoot power quality problems in three-phase and single-phase power distribution systems. Additionally, the Fluke-patented energy loss algorithm, Unified Power Measurement, measures and quantifies energy losses due to poor power quality such as harmonics and unbalance issues, allowing users to pinpoint the origin of energy waste within a system and make the necessary repairs.

The 434 series is specifically designed for facilities engineers, building managers, residential and commercial electricians and basic power quality users. The 435 series has application in waveform capture and power inverter efficiency in solar, wind and UPS applications for industrial electricians, utilities technicians and advanced power quality users. Top-of-the-range 437 series targets the defence, avionics and other transport-focused industrial electricians and technicians for the capture of power quality measurements for avionic and military power systems with 400 Hz frequency needs.

Built into all 430 series devices is a mathematical formula for the monetisation of energy created by the professors and staff at Valencia University, USA. Fluke heard about their work, did their own testing, and incorporated it into the 430 instruments, making them unique in the world. Fluke’s rigorous testing of all its products ensures that this model conforms to the same high quality standards on which Fluke users have come to rely.
