Interkama 2001 tour well received

January 2002 News

Instrumentation specialist Endress+Hauser reports that the response following its 2001 Interkama tour (involving 37 delegates) was overwhelmingly positive, indicating that the 2003 trip will be sought-after.

With delegates from as far as Nampower, Unilever and Kenya Breweries, this year's informative tour around the globally respected Interkama technology showcase included visits to Endress+Hauser production facilities in Germany, France and Switzerland, as well as Basle University. "For me the most fruitful times were at the product presentations and the University of Basle," reports Mossgas' Ismail Sahabodien.

Concerning Interkama in particular, key corners were used by Endress+Hauser to present topics such as 'Tooling' or 'Solutions'. In the Solutions corner, Endress+Hauser Flowtec for the first time showed the PROline Promass 83F DN 150. This large nominal diameter massflow meter is a new solution for the oil and gas industries and measures flow rates of up to 640 t/h.

"There were three highlights for Endress+Hauser at Interkama, in the form of W@M Dataflow, Installed Base Assistant and Fieldcare," Endress+Hauser South Africa's Rudy Rudolph reports. "Fieldcare is a device and asset management tool based on the new open-source PACTware platform. It is basically a Field Device Tool standard frame application that is supported by a consortium of major instrument and control system suppliers, providing Device Type Management, user management, network configuration and device navigation."

W@M, or web-enabled asset management, fully integrates field instruments and data produced by them in overall business management structures. From purchasing and installation through to commissioning and engineering, W@M will fill the void between ERP and scada systems.

The 'Installed Base Assistant' or IBA custom software package from Endress+Hauser further supports the decision process with the aid of a knowledge base and a set of complex rules derived from years of experience.

Overall, even though visitor numbers to Interkama declined from 1999 due to external reasons such as the World Trade Centre attack in America, the company welcomed more than 200 new customers. Customers requested more than 300 quotations and more than 1000 visits from sales staff were agreed upon.

As for the South African delegation, Jimmy van Rensburg from Lever Pond sums it up as follows; "I can safely say that this Interkama 2001 tour was the best we ever had - thank you Endress+Hauser for a well-organised, unforgettable experience."
