Application optimised DEHNshield combined arrestor
July 2016
Electrical Power & Protection
DEHNshield is a space-saving protection solution for buildings, which can be integrated without requiring an additional backup fuse, depending on the breaker size.
The lightning impulse is reduced to a minimum so that terminal equipment is subjected to almost no energetic stress due to the wave breaker function. DEHNshield takes up only four standard DIN modules, and is ideally suited for DIN rails with restricted space conditions. The combined arrester is now available with remote signalling contact and can be monitored through the factory master control system. This ensures that faults are identified at an early stage and can be quickly eliminated.
DEHNshield is connected in parallel to the load, but can be connected in series using the Stak 25 terminal, thus ensuring maximum system protection. The device is not only an optimal protection solution for buildings, but is also recommended for special applications such as:
• Connection of outdoor lights.
• Protection of cell sites in low lightning risk areas.
• Protection of inverters in certain constellations.
The application optimised DEHNshield family offers various benefits provided by type 1 and type 2 spark gap based arresters such as the wave breaker function. This and the associated reduction of the pulse time mitigate the energy of the lightning impulse current to an acceptable level for downstream protection stages or terminal equipment.
Moreover, DEHNshield arresters are directly energy coordinated with other arresters of the DEHN Red/Line product family. DEHNshield combined lightning current and surge arresters blend lightning equipotential bonding up to lightning impulse currents of 50 kA (10/350 μs) and surge protection in a single device. This clearly distinguishes DEHNshield from varistor-based arresters of this application and performance class.
