The use of geothermal energy for power generation as well as heat supply is a regenerative, independent alternative to conventional technologies such as nuclear energy, coal, gas and oil. As technology for geothermal energy advances, it becomes more and more important for power generation. ARCA Regler has successfully completed projects at home and abroad in this innovative field, which faces new control challenges.
For these projects, turbine bypass valves and pump bypass valves were required for cavitation-free operation. Special requirements for the turbine bypass valves included low noise and compact design. The high control range for diverse operating conditions, together with very short regulating times, had to be considered during design.
The task of the turbine bypass valves is to direct the energy along the turbine in order to reduce noise associated with low pressure. The desired process conditions were achieved by choosing the ARCA Ecotrol series with multi-stage parabolic plug and integrated silencer.
