High accuracy displacement transducers

October 2001 Sensors & Transducers

Displacement transducers are used in a variety of situations in industry and in research. However, for gauging applications, special requirements arise in respect of accuracy and transducer diameter. Transducers are available specially developed for gauging and these are often useful also for the more general-purpose tasks.

GH Series of transducers, available locally from Apek sole agent Measurement Systems, are aimed at the pure measurement needs in the manufacturing industry by providing a reliable, accurate and cost-effective gauging head. These fully captive and guided transducers offer significantly low operating forces and excellent sensitivity. Reliability and accuracy are inherent in the design of the GH Series transducers, precision engineering and stringent quality control being key factors in their production, making them unrivalled for economic solutions to gauging requirements.

The GH Series offers excellent linearity with infinite resolution as standard and the 350 Ohm full bridge strain gauge system which they incorporate is compatible with most off-the-shelf low-cost indicators. The transducers can be supplied as part of full systems to provide data capture for manufacturing processes, in many cases utilising software refinements to further enhance their measurement accuracy.

The robustness and compact design of the GH Series makes them ideally suitable in working situations such as engineering laboratories, manufacturing and industrial process control, providing significant improvements in the reliability of test data and in the accuracy of feedback and control. Their versatility is further demonstrated by their ability to be zeroed at any position along their stroke.

The typical performance specification of the GH transducer, with a rated stroke of 3 mm, includes nonlinearity of 0,1%, repeatability of 0,15 µm and infinite resolution.
