Honeywell Southern Africa has supplied safety light barriers for the protection of operators at Good Year's tyre manufacturing plant in Port Elizabeth.
In order to meet the highest European safety standards and to conform to standardised machine safety procedures used by the company throughout Europe, Good Year installed the Honeywell equipment, which now provides total safety for the operators. The light barriers will automatically stop the operation of the high-speed ultrasonic cutting machines if either the operator or any other object protrudes into the path of the cutters.
A recent addition to the Honeywell range of safety light curtains is the FF-SLC. This system consists of an emitter, a receiver and a separate control unit, which acts as an interface between the light curtain and the equipment. The multibeam device, with cyclic testing, corresponds to Type 2 of EN61496 for no touch, active protective equipment. The scanning distance covers 0-12 m with protection heights ranging from 230 mm to 1645 mm.
