CS Systems Integration, a division of JSE-listed CS Holdings, and a registered systems integrator for Adroit Technologies, has been given the go-ahead to replace and upgrade the existing Proscon Distributed Control System (DCS) at Harmony Central and Virginia Mills.
The project includes upgrading the existing Modicon 984 and 884 PLCs to Modicon Quantum PLCs, which will communicate with the existing I/O (inputs and outputs) hardware. The Proscon DCS operator stations will be replaced with standard personal computers and loaded with Adroit scada software. According to Derwyn Oxley of CS Systems Integration, using Adroit software provides the user with exceptional graphics and can be engineered to be simple to understand, navigate and operate.
"Adroit", he says, "also provides tools to store and retrieve data from a standard database, making reporting and trending an easy task. The information from the database can be shared with other users on an office LAN environment, which for example, will allow metallurgical and management staff to view and analyse production and efficiency reports."
By using standard personal computers, Windows NT operating systems, and easily configurable systems like Modicon's Quantum and Adroit's scada, the maintenance and further development of the installation will be easily facilitated.
