Handheld OCI hyperspectral imager family

May 2014 Sensors & Transducers

BaySpec has introduced the OCI-series compact hyperspectral imager in a lightweight form factor for ultimate portability. This enables operation on platforms such as robots, drones and production lines, and adoption for applications ranging from geospatial imaging to in vivo biomedical imaging.

The OCI-1000 and OCI-2000 imagers acquire full, continuous VNIR hyperspectral data of high spectral resolution and excellent sensitivity, enabling new point of sample measurements. The on-board computer runs BaySpec’s powerful Android-based SpecPhone app for image collection, analysis, and classification.

The imagers are easy to use and financially accessible. Cost reduction and improvements in performance have been achieved by eliminating bulky glass lenses, spectrometers and mechanical moving parts. BaySpec has developed a highly integrated spectral imager that provides a detailed view of the spectrum for each and every point in an image. By integrating spectral capability on an image sensor, at the level of the chip itself, the need for complex optics is removed and the result is a spectral imager with on-board computer and display that is battery operated weighing less than half a kilogram. It can be easily installed on miniature UAV drones or conveyor belts in production lines.

Hyperspectral imaging is well recognised for its potential, but widespread adoption has been limited by both bulk and cost. With BaySpec’s miniaturised hyperspectral OCI series, the cost of generating hyperspectral images drops significantly.

Ocean-floor seismometer
Horne Technologies Motion Control & Drives
Geophysicists depend on seismometers to monitor earthquakes generated by the motion of tectonic plates. In order to function, the instruments need to be levelled prior to operation. To achieve this, Canadian seismic specialist, Nanometrics combines sophisticated gimbals and microprocessors with ultra-reliable, efficient stepper motors from Faulhaber.
