Increased price-performance ratio for sensors

January 2014 Sensors & Transducers

Due to the ongoing pressure caused by the economic crisis, manufacturers continue to seek out cost-effective sensors that have been optimised for simple detection tasks, while functioning reliably in challenging applications. Leuze’s strategy is to provide an unbeatable price-performance ratio on its standard sensors.

“Manufacturers need to consider different international requirements concerning technical data, as well as connection and installation options. In line with this, Leuze has launched three new standard sensor series which are geared to reliability and performance. Each of these series consists of throughbeam and retro-reflective photoelectric sensors, as well as light scanners,” says Gerry Bryant, managing director of Countapulse Controls.

The sensors have a large range, large brightVision light spot and active A²LS extraneous light suppression. The throughbeam photoelectric sensors with transmitter and receiver are used for standard detection tasks, while the retro-reflective photoelectric sensors are suited to detection of objects with glossy surfaces.

Leuze Series 5

The high performance Leuze Series 5 sensors have a cubic design in a compact housing and are ideally suited for detection in conveyor or packaging technology. The integrated M3 metal-threaded sleeves and the cable outlet, which is available either pointing downward or to the rear, make the sensors ideal for use in locations with limited installation space.

Leuze 318B

The Leuze 318B family of photoelectric sensors is cylindrical in shape and has a robust plastic housing. The intelligent omni-mount system for M18 hole mounting makes them an extremely cost-effective and reliable option. They come standard with bright yellow/green indicator LEDs, two antivalent switching outputs and optional 90° angular optics. The high performance throughbeam sensors in this series are suited for use in tough industrial environments. Simple alignment is provided through optimised beam geometry and detection of flat objects is achieved with ease. The retro-reflective sensors use polarised light to detect objects with glossy surfaces reliably. The light scanners perform detection directly on an object and require no reflector. Various detection distances are provided for.

Leuze Series 28

The small but tough Leuze Series 28 sensors are reliable and powerful and are suitable for many standard detection tasks in materials handling, packaging technology and machines for special applications. Featuring a fibre-reinforced cubic plastic housing, these devices have large ranges. They are IP67 rated and available with front- and plug-side M18 mounting options. The A²LS active suppression of extraneous light facilitates robust detection, even in arduous industrial environments. The sensors in protection class IP67 have warp-resistant plastic housings that remain functionally stable, even with high tightening torque. Every model in the three-sensor series is available with an M8 or M12 connector or with a connection cable and can be used anywhere, due to the large temperature range of -40 to 60°C.
