American company orders 100 SA-designed and manufactured weigh indicators
August 2001
News
US-based company, WeighTronics, has been supplied with 100 process weigh indicators, designed and manufactured in South Africa by Digital Process Measurement (DPM). These sample instruments carry the WeighTronics logo and are sold in America as part of the company's product range. The official launch took place at a dealers' convention in mid-April.
The order came about with the acquisition by WeighTronics of the UK manufacturer and distributor of weighing systems, Avery Berkel. The latter has an agreement with DPM which manufactures loadcell indicators namebranded for the UK company.
Although DPM exports extensively to Australia, Turkey and Europe, this is the first inroad into the US market.
DPM's microcontrolled indicator underwent several hardware and software changes to meet specification requirements to customise for the American market. This included different symbols, a higher resolution input, 20 bit A-D and bigger terminals for the power supply.
The units are designed for strain gauge bridge inputs but can also be used with dynamometers and belt weighers as options. There is a full range of features and options available on these indicators which are made to ISO 9001 standards.
