Name change for SSI

October 2012 News

SSI Engineers and Environmental Consultants will operate as Royal HaskoningDHV as of 21 August, this after the DHV Group, of which SSI was part, merged with Royal Haskoning. The move accelerates its strategy of leveraging a strong base of international expertise for the expansion of its existing markets in southern and in the rest of Africa.

Three other DHV companies based in southern Africa: specialist mining consultancy Turgis, Royal Haskoning, and DHV Mozambique will also fall under Royal HaskoningDHV brand. The combined engineering experience of these companies amounts to more than 200 years.

Royal HaskoningDHV carries out more than 30 000 projects every year in planning, transport, infrastructure, water, maritime, aviation, industry, energy, mining and buildings. Its formidable team of engineering and consulting experts numbers nearly 8000 professionals operating from 100 offices in 35 countries.

Bertrand van Ee, chairman of the Royal Haskoning Group says: “Our clients look to us for thought leadership and pragmatic and sustainable solutions. As one company we can support them better.”

Nyami Mandindi, CEO of Royal HaskoningDHV in South Africa says: “Today a world of possibilities opens to us. We are now a truly global player. We have strengthened our position as a winning business in South Africa and we are now a dominant force on the African continent.”

In a fast-changing world there is a desperate need for smarter, brighter thinking, better ideas and sustainable solutions. The focus of Royal HaskoningDHV is on leveraging its core strengths to meet the immense challenges society faces in a world that is in transition – scarcity of resources, food security, climate change, and urban redevelopment. Van Ee comments: “Our sense of being innovative and bright in our projects, an acute awareness of carrying out our work with integrity, doing it together as a team and delivering our projects with excellence make us excel in delivering solutions to global challenges.”

Mandindi adds: “Our ability to respond to a critical changing environment will help take us into the future as a solid and ever-growing business. Access to professionals with international experience will enhance our existing local delivery of global solutions locally. It also reinforces our client-centric market approach and ability to impact in our identified markets.”

The company intends to harness its award-winning skills to provide positive impact engineering solutions across Africa. It aims to create a meaningful future for the 1 billion people on a continent poised to become a leader on the world stage. Despite growth in exports, Intra-African trade is still relatively untapped and underexploited. Growth within the continent would allow it to diversify its exports.
