Expanding the Hydac brand

October 2012 News

Hydac Technology opened for business in Johannesburg three years ago. The goal was to build the Hydac brand locally by growing into the target market segments of industrial hydraulics, mobile hydraulics and process control through the company’s new hydraulic product range.

A full fluid technology solution

The company now covers all areas of fluid technology. Its expanded product range consists of components, sub-systems, controlled and regulated drive units for mobile and industrial machines and systems, hydraulic filters, accumulators, valves, clamps, electronics and compact hydraulic systems.

Besides specifically promoting hydraulic valves and pumps, Hydac Technology also plans to draw on its in-house expertise, as well as that of Hydac International, to design, manufacture, install and commission hydraulic systems for industrial (stationary) and mobile applications.

Hydac manufacturing companies are all wholly owned subsidiaries of Hydac International. Hydrosaar offers a range of cylinders, special manifolds and rotary transfer joints while Nordhydraulic produces directional control valves for mobile applications. Other Hydac companies are Red Fox, Quality Hydraulic Power (QHP), RT-FilterTechnik and Schroeder.

Services and distribution

Through Hydac Fluid Engineering, the company offers customers a comprehensive package of technical services for media such as hydraulic oils, lubrication oils, cooling/cutting fluids and water. The company is currently building a countrywide network of distributors, service partners and authorised dealers. These are being identified and set up in regions including the Eastern and Western Cape, KwaZulu-Natal, Mpumulanga and all the major mining clusters.

According to Walter Heijboer, Hydac Technology managing director, there is still a general lack of knowledge in this country about the organisation’s extended product range. One of the challenges is to educate the local market about the available technology and promote Hydac’s ability to deliver a complete hydraulic solution. Hydac International is on a global expansion drive and thus keen to introduce new products, in particular South Africa is an interesting market for the company.

“Hydac International is a role player in fluid management, hydraulics, drives and control, both internationally and now in South Africa,” says Walter Heijboer, Hydac Technology managing director “Hydac Technology is the local cog in this global initiative.”
