The Lapp Group is looking to involve its customers more closely in the development of new products in the future. In doing so, the company is embarking on a new and unusual path for b2b markets: it is placing its faith in open innovation. The basis for future exchanges of new ideas and solutions will be the online platform ‘Lapp Ideas’ at www.lappideas.com with a definitive, fully featured version set to launch later in the year.
Once registered, users can explain their ideas, discuss solutions with each other and monitor the progress of dialogue and the development process. Lapp is opening up its innovation process because it believes it can learn from customers. With 150 000 customer contacts in Germany alone, there is a large pool of potential idea generators out there for the Group.
Lapp Ideas is a logical continuation of close customer relationships and is designed to intensify dialogue. While the main theme behind the platform is to involve customers in the innovation process, it is also open to other users such as students or self-employed engineers. In addition, all Lapp Group employees are invited to put forward their suggestions on Lapp Ideas.
Lapp Ideas is keeping the Group abreast of the challenges presented by a market that demands ever shorter innovation cycles. Not only will the platform benefit the company, but just as importantly, it will also have a positive impact on customers. Innovation no longer takes place behind closed doors – this is a new chapter in the Lapp success story.
