The new standstill monitor from ifm electronic safely monitors rotational or linear movements for standstill using a unit equipped with a reliable and redundant pulse evaluation system. Microprocessors calculate the pulse sequence time and the resulting frequency according to the principle of interval measurement. The input frequency (actual value) and the switch point (preset value) are continuously compared. The evaluation system promptly detects standstill and safely switches the output relays according to the preset switching functionality.
Two pnp-switching sensors, whose function and behaviour are dynamically checked for plausibility, are used as pulse pick-ups. By continuously comparing the pulses the system detects whether the frequencies of the two sensors differ. It also ensures that faults in the unit do not lead to wrong standstill messages. Via LEDs, the system continuously signals the state of the inputs and relays. The unit complies with ISO 13849-1: category 4 and PL e as well as EN 62061: SIL 3 and is certified by TÜV.
