New protection for industrial Ethernet

February 2012 IT in Manufacturing

A powerful device for industrial use to provide electrical isolation in Ethernet networks is now available with the Ethernet FL isolator from Phoenix Contact. This device reliably protects copper-connected Ethernet participants against potential differences and overvoltages up to 4 kV. At data transmission rates of up to 1 Gbit/s, the level of interference immunity in industrial environments is significantly increased.

These Ethernet isolators are installed in front of the network participant to be protected. A power supply is not required. In addition to the RJ45 socket, the FL Isolator 100-RJ/SC version also has a pluggable screw terminal. This allows different cable lengths to be easily connected. The device can be used as patch field with electrical isolation for field cabling spanning several control cabinets. The extended temperature range from -25 to 75°C and the coated PC board ensure reliable operation in aggressive environments.
