Omsa supplies butterfly valves to Seaworld
February 2012
News
The OMSA Group has supplied over 100 Praher PVC butterfly valves to the largest aquarium in the southern hemisphere, uShaka Marine World in Durban. After a lengthy trial period, the aquarium decided that these valves best met its stringent needs, fulfilling all operational and environmental requirements.
Some of the major considerations for OMSA were the corrosion risk to underground piping in such a water-filled environment and also the possibility of contaminating the water, a possibility in the case of metal valves. The Praher PVC butterfly valves became the preferred choice due to the on-site economic and environmental benefits.
Roger Kuch OMSA’s business development manager: “The quality of the Praher PVC butterfly valve provides the long lasting solution that uShaka Marine was seeking to resolve its problems, reliability being a key factor. To date, we have supplied over 100 valves to the uShaka project and all are functioning well in sizes ranging from 80 to 600 mm. The majority are butterfly type, but there are also some purpose specific ball and diaphragm valves.
“We believe that the Praher solution offered the best value for money as it requires little or no maintenance. OMSA will be responsible for any valve maintenance that is required from its branch in Mount Edgecombe.”
The Praher valves are used throughout the aquarium from the seawater intake to the quarantine area which houses the more vulnerable animals. The contract is ongoing.
