Power supply for high wattage applications

January 2012 Electrical Power & Protection

Mean Well has introduced the 2000 W 1U low profile enclosed type switching power supply, which completes the product line of AC/DC enclosed type models with parallel and PFC functions.

The company can now offer power supplies of 600 W, 1000 W, 1500 W, 2000 W, 2400 W and 3000 W. The RSP-2000 series has an innovative low power loss circuit topology which takes the efficiency up to 92%. Featuring an extremely high power density of 1,3 W/cm³ (21,4 W/in³), the RSP-2000 series provides full output power up to 50°C. With the wide range trimming function, the output voltage can be adjusted from 40 to 115% (60 to 115% for 12 V) by adding 1–4,7 V DC of external control voltage. This provides users with greater flexibility for their system designs.

RSP-2000 also implements advanced digital control techniques that use a microprocessor to handle the power management. This significantly increases the flexibility of PSU control and reduces the part count at the same time. To fulfil the requirements of high wattage applications, the power supply can increase the output wattage up to 7200 W with the built-in parallel function (current sharing up to four units). In addition it uses ‘constant current limiting plus delay shutdown’ as the overload protection, which enables the unit to power capacitive/inductive loads and still provide full protection for the system. Other built-in functions include remote sensing, remote ON/OFF control, 12 V/0,8 A and 5V/0,3 A auxiliary output, and DC OK alarm signal output (TTL signal). All comply with UL, CUL, TUV, CB and CE safety regulations. High wattage applications include LCD panel burn-in systems, IC testing equipment, instrumentation, telecoms, data storage, laser-carving machines and factory automation.
