Coded magnetic safety systems

November 2011 Sensors & Transducers

The Leuze coded magnetic safety systems feature a closed design and high strength plastic housing make them suitable for use in safety guard applications under the harsh environmental conditions found in the pharmaceutical, food and timber industries. The units are ideal for environments where pollution from dust and humidity is particularly bad.

The safety system comprises one Leuze MC3x sensor, the corresponding actuator and the MSI-MC310 safety relay. The sensor is a special reed switch that is activated by the coded magnetic actuator. If, for example, a guard door is opened the actuator is separated from the sensor and a ‘shut-down’ alarm signal is triggered. As a result, potentially high risk machines can be safely guarded.

For guards that are only accessible from behind, a reset button can be connected to the safety relay for manual starting. The system fulfils safety standards up to Performance Level PL e and safety category 4 in accordance with EN ISO 13849-1.
