An excellent solution for overfill protection in the water and other primary industries.
Traditionally, ultrasonic level devices have been the preferred level measurement technique in many applications where budget restrictions are tight; however, it can suffer from problems of echo loss depending on the application.
No signal loss during filling this solution measures up
Endress+Hauser’s Micropilot FMR244 radar device is an accurate and reliable alternative to ultrasonic. This low-cost radar alternative offers all the benefits of radar technology such as non-contact continuous measurement with complete integrity to eliminate overspill, product loss, clean-up costs, pollution fines and plant and personnel safety.
Operating at 26 GHz, the FMR244’s horn antenna is well suited to a wide range of processes and is SIL2 compliant to IEC61508/IEC61511-1 for use in safety-related systems. With a measuring range of 15 m in solids and 20 m in liquids and remaining fully operational in process temperatures up to 80°C at pressures of 3 bar, the Micropilot M FMR244 offers an impressive price-performance ratio.
Units are supplied with an integrated display for simple menu-guided operation with the FieldCare software providing straightforward configuration, commissioning and documentation of the measuring point. HART, Profibus PA and Foundation Fieldbus connectivity is also provided for seamless integration into new and existing systems.
The Micropilot M FMR244 is now offered ex-stock from the Endress+Hauser Johannesburg head office.
Level measurement of an acid dosing tank at a WWTP
Level Measurement & Control
Ferric chloride and other acids are essential chemical substances in water and wastewater treatment. To control the dosing of acid solutions, an Australian wastewater treatment plant uses a special container to store, mix and add these chemicals. The company opted in favour of KROHNE’s OPTIWAVE 1540 radar level transmitter

Level Measurement & Control
A municipal utility in eastern Germany operates a state-of-the-art wastewater treatment plant with sustainable sludge treatment. The ultrasonic signal was being partially deflected by the wind, leading to frequent false measurements and inefficient process workflows. The problem was solved by replaced the ultrasonic level sensor with KROHNE’s OPTIWAVE 1540 non-contact radar.
