Bytes recommends MESA International Global Education Program

September 2011 News

Bytes Systems Integration, a leading ICT company and systems integrator in South Africa, has announced that it recommends the Manufacturing Enterprise Solution Association (MESA) Global Education Program (GEP). Bytes PMC divisional manager and chairman of MESA Southern Africa, Gerhard Greeff, is among the five developers and certified instructors of the GEP and has instructed both the MESA Certificate of Awareness (CoA) and Certificate of Competence (CoC) courses in South Africa and Saudi Arabia during the first half of the year.

Greeff, a leading proponent of manufacturing execution systems (MES) and manufacturing operations management (MOM) in southern Africa, says, “I am surprised by how much I learned in helping to develop this program and amazed how much more I learned presenting this course to a variety of other industry practitioners. Vendors are hungry for new skills, concepts and approaches and end-users for solutions that can assist them in solving business problems. The need in the industry is clear throughout the world with little active guidance being provided to end-users other than through vendors. This much needed program clearly shows the leadership of MESA and the GEP committee in that they are providing just what that market needs. I believe that students coming out of these courses will have a much better understanding of MES/MOM principles, standards and concepts and as a result of this, more successful MES/MOM projects and return on investment.”

The MESA Global Education Program aggressively addresses the knowledge gap that serves as the primary barrier to growth of the operations management space. Slowing that growth inhibits the realisation of the significant gains available to end users who successfully embrace MES/MOM. So, end user manufacturers, producers, miners and solution providers alike have reason to attend these programs.

MESA Certificate of Competency (CoC) for MES/MOM methodologies

A 4-day, comprehensive program of MES/MOM methodologies courses aimed at systems analysts, architects, programmers, project managers and consultants.

MESA Certificate of Awareness (CoA) for MES/MOM business awareness

A 2-day, high-level program of MES/MOM business functions courses geared for executives, manufacturing/operations and IT personnel and sales professionals. The CoA courses are higher level, short versions of the CoC program.

The MES/MOM skills shortage within southern Africa, and indeed globally, is recognised as a major barrier to plant and supply chain optimisation and operations excellence. Since the program launch, MESA has experienced a remarkable worldwide response. GEP programs are ongoing and the next course scheduled for southern Africa will be held on from 5-6 October. Greeff says, “I look forward to share the material and what I have learned with the class in Fourways prior to the MESA SA Conference on 7 October. Please contact me if you will be attending.”

Other GEP courses are scheduled at locations throughout the world, and companies can have them at their locations or host public GEP courses at site. Mike James, chairman of MESA’s Global Education Committee commented “Our new education program has received critical acclaim throughout the world as both content rich and relevant. We are with Bytes endorsement of the program and Gerhard’s involvement as one of our four global instructors. Join one of our programs and be ready for your MES/MOM deployment, even industry specialists with 15 years plus of experience have been surprised to learn so much in such a short time.”
