User-defined integrated measurement systems

June 2001 System Integration & Control Systems Design

National Instruments' measurement software and hardware enables the user to create their own integrated measurement systems. Using LabView, Measurement Studio or National Instruments other measurement software, and one or more PXI/SCXI combination chassis, users can integrate signal conditioning with their choice of embedded controller; a variety of I/O devices including vision, motion control and switching; and connectivity solutions.

The combination PXI/SCXI chassis architecture combines the integration benefits of PXI, open standards and advanced timing and triggering, with the wide variety of sensor connectivity, channel expansion and rugged packaging benefits of SCXI. Users can create a single unit, or network multiple systems together, and access them across their entire enterprise. The PXI/SCXI platform gives clients the unique ability to develop systems for more complex applications.

These are a few examples of the types of custom measurement and automation solutions that users can create with the PXI/SCXI platform:

* Datalogging - combine DAQ devices with front-end signal conditioning to create a cost-effective, custom datalogging system.

* Automated test - use high performance digitisers, high resolution digitisers (DMMs) and switching devices to lower manufacturing test expenses and increase test throughput.

* Industrial monitoring and control - develop a machine monitoring system with NI realtime embedded controllers, LabView realtime and DAQ and with dynamic signal acquisition devices.

* Custom systems - combine any National Instruments measurement and control devices - designed to integrate together - to define unique automated measurement systems.
