In almost all mobile machines a powerful process and dialogue unit is required for machine operation and indication of system messages. The PDM360 NG dialogue module from ifm electronic, with its high-resolution graphic display and powerful 32-bit controller, is such a user interface. It is programmable to IEC 61131-3 with CoDeSys 2.3 and its robust housing, with protection rating IP67, enables surface or panel mounting inside or outside the cabin.
Four CAN interfaces, Ethernet and USB, together with the Linux operating system, form a universal platform for networking and communication with other vehicle components.
The high resolution display is protected by a scratch resistant glass pane and can be read in sunlight. It provides a resolution of 800 x 480 pixels with an aspect ratio of 15:9. Images and graphics can be shown with a colour depth of up to 18 bits.
The PDM360 NG has a fully sealed diecast aluminium housing with IP67 protection rating. The integrated M12 connectors provide all important connections for supply, inputs/outputs and communication.
The CoDeSys software enables a clear and easy creation of the application software for the user. Function libraries are available for the special functions of the display. The graphic elements are created and animated via the integrated visualisation.
The PDM360 NG is equipped with four CAN interfaces to ISO 11898 which exchange data with the connected controller, the decentralised input/output modules or the engine controller. They support CANopen and J1939 protocols among others. The integrated USB 2.0 interfaces provide easy data exchange with modern storage media. The Ethernet interface is used not only for programming but also for communication with other network participants.
Introduction to Part 2 loop signatures and process transfer functions
Fieldbus & Industrial Networking
The previous series of loop signature articles dealt with the basics of control loop optimisation, and concentrated on troubleshooting and ‘SWAG’ tuning of simple processes. In this new series, consideration will be given to dealing practically with more difficult issues like interactive processes, and with processes with much more complex dynamics.
