New powerful multifunctional power meter

June 2001 Electrical Power & Protection

The A2000 multifunction power meter offers a full house of features with capabilities to measure and display four values simultaneously. There are a myriad of display combinations for current; voltage; active, reactive and apparent power; power factor, frequency, energy kWh, including a KVA maximum demand feature programmable from 1-60 min. Via a pushbutton, the user can quickly scroll through all electrical and energy values.

Applications are numerous: the unit is used for the analysis of alternating current systems and especially as replacement of conventional analog measuring instruments within distribution systems. Used in combination with current and voltage transformers, the A2000 is capable of performing the most important measurements required in low to medium voltage systems.

The data can be extracted or downloaded by RS232, RS485 and LONbus interfaces and up to four analog outputs 4-20 mA, 0-20 mA, 0-10 V and 2-10 V. With the nonvolatile 128K memory, the instrument can also be used as a logger to download to a PC.

Features of the A2000 includes two pulse outputs for readout of energy measurement, two limit value functions and programming for 1 A or 5 A CT ratios and VT ratios of 100-500 V.

All selected values remain in memory, even if mains failure occurs. All programmed parameters, except for limit values, can be protected against inadvertent change with a lock switch to ensure instrument configuration is not changed during limit value selection. Alternatively, the lock switch can be programmed to protect all parameters, including limit values, against unauthorised modifications.

Values that can be set for either 4 or 3-phase unbalanced electrical systems. The meter is sized at 144 x 144 mm and has four bright, 4-digit, 13,2 mm LED displays.
