Schneider Electric in South Africa now offers what it believes is a unique, object oriented software program that makes it easier, faster and less expensive to design and specify automation systems for complex process manufacturing applications. Onestep Generator is a software tool that translates project functional specifications into a process control system design.
The benefits of application configuration by code generation from a library of standard process object smart control devices (SCoD) has significant benefits for end users in regulated industries such as food and beverage, pharmaceuticals and chemicals. Onestep Generator automatically creates validation protocol document content and provides version control and change tracking features, which aid compliance with the new 21CFR11 regulations.
Component-based development is at the core of Onestep Generator applications. It enables new applications to be created by configuring within the tool's process analysis view using libraries of process objects such as pumps, drives and valves. The creation of process control system applications for reusable parts is the next great wave in software engineering for the process industries.
Fully compatible with the ANSI-S88 standard for batch process control, Onestep Generator is a tool that manages the process control system application throughout the software life cycle. The tool's incremental compile and generation feature allows engineers to add, delete and upgrade the process control system throughout the operation and maintenance phase of the software's life cycle.
By providing a uniform platform for system design and component specification, Onestep Generator facilitates a common design methodology among all project engineering staff and others involved in process design, regardless of discipline. It enables everyone involved in a project to define the requirements of the process, minimising software mistakes and reducing both implementation cycle times and engineering costs.
