Intrinsically safe current transducer
April 2011
Sensors & Transducers
Ohio Semitronics has announced its new ISC family of intrinsically-safe current sensors. The CTs are certified to meet the requirements of ATEX Directive 94/9/EC and UL/CUL intrinsic safety regulations and are designed for use in (CUL/UL) Class 1, Div 1, Groups A,B,C & D environments as well as Cenelec EEx ia IIC T4 areas. These certifications are specifically related to the requirements for hazardous location installations in North America and the European Union (EU) but are widely accepted throughout the world. When used with appropriate safety barriers these units are ideal for installation in hazardous locations commonly associated with oil and gas operations, chemical and petrochemical plants, underground mining and grain processing or storage facilities.
The transducers utilise a hall-effect sensor with an integrated signal conditioner. All units are packaged in a split-core configuration for ease of installation and removal. Eleven models support input current ranges from 0-100 A to a maximum of 0-2500 A, with output signal options of 0-2.9 V, 0-5 V, 0-10 V and 4-20 mA providing users with a wide range of options for industrial applications.
