Adroit, CBI and DesSoft launch MAPS

December 2010 News

Adroit Technologies, DesSoft and local Mitsubishi Automation distributors CBI-electric: low voltage, launched the much anticipated Mitsubishi Adroit Process Suite (MAPS) in Johannesburg recently. Designed to offer an integrated design, engineering and management tool, MAPS will lower costs and improve quality to help customers to maintain the integrity of an automation solution that uses the Adroit Scada, Mitsubishi PLCs and add even greater value via the DesSoft electrical and instrumentation design software.

The launch was attended by an enthusiastic audience, who agreed that MAPS offers something fresh and much-needed in the automation industry. Hartmut Puetz, VP of Mitsubishi FA (Factory Automation) in Europe, made an announcement that the MAPS product has the full backing of Mitsubishi Electric through its global e-Factory partner programme. Mitsubishi FA currently ships in excess of 170 000 PLCs a month, making it the number one producer of PLCs in the world. Mitsubishi’s decision to collaborate with Adroit, CBI and DesSoft demonstrates the potential value represented by this collaborative product offering.

Adroit MD, Dave Wibberley, stated: “We were approached by Steve Venter from CBI to see if we were interested in a jointly developed integrated PLC-scada offering. After much discussion, it was evident that in doing this we would just be playing catch-up with the other large vendors. It simply was not in our constitution to do this. We felt that we had to develop something that would change the lives of our customers and address frustrations within the industry. The result is MAPS and apart from the massive potential cost savings in engineering, we believe it addresses the irritations that our customers struggle with on a daily basis.”

Steve Venter, executive manager CBI-electric: low voltage industrial controls and automation added: “We are delighted with the partnership. I have worked with some of the bigger players in the automation field and Adroit and their products combine well with the Mitsubishi range of PLCs. This has the potential to change the playing field as we know it today. At our initial strategy meetings, we recognised the need for integrating the design and documentation aspects of life-cycle management. DesSoft, local developer of the very popular engineering and instrumentation design software 1Des, was approached and took up the challenge of building what we believe is the most advanced life-cycle management software on the market to date.”

Johan Hamman, managing director of DesSoft, concluded: “MAPS is focused on delivering quality, easy to use solutions that cost less and deliver ‘as built’ documentation throughout the plant lifecycle. In addition, access to the PLC diagnostics and programming environment from within MAPS ensures minimum plant downtime as technicians are able to resolve control problems timeously.”
