Omniflex improves root cause analysis

November 2010 Electrical Power & Protection

Omniflex has successfully won the business to upgrade the ageing alarm and events management systems at the Kardia power station in Greece with its solution blended alarm annunciation and SoE (sequence of events) recording into a single integrated system with a Wonderware scada HMI. The company has developed its skills in alarm management over its 40 plus years in the industry, having supplied Eskom locally for many years in the generation field. Another large user of Maxiflex SoE system is the petrochemical industry.

Key system parameters:

* 960 relay contact inputs COS monitoring.

* 960 alarm statuses announced.

* Input discrimination to 200 μseconds.

* Minimum pulse width 500 μseconds.

* Time stamping accuracy 200 μseconds.

Operational objectives satisfied by the system:

* Root cause analysis.

* Alarm history.

* Local alarm indication.

* Fast and reliable event capture.

* Redundancy of I/O processors.

The Maxiflex SoE is a sequential events recording system that integrates with Omni4000 PC-based alarm management supervisory HMI stations or any OPC compliant scada. The system comprises Maxiflex modules for the I/O and Conet Classic (twisted pair) or Conet/e (Ethernet) LAN connections to HMI supervisory systems for recording of events. The Maxiflex M1760 32 SoE module monitors 32 digital inputs and creates time stamped events to a resolution of 0,2 ms upon change of state.

Features:

* Up to 480 digital points per rack (15 SoE modules).

* Up to 1440 digital points per system (3 Racks of 15 SoE Modules).

* 200 micro second input discrimination.

* 1 millisecond time stamping on events as standard.

* 9362 event buffer on each Mx SoE module.

* Capability of integrating analogue signals.

* Integrated serial annunciator display options.

* Distributed network options.

* Redundant communications controller options.

* Integration to OMNI4000 alarm and events management supervisory software.

Benefits

* High speed events logging (1000 events per second).

* Diagnose quickly what caused the plant to trip.

* Reduce downtime costs.

* System expandable up to 1440 inputs.
