DC/AC sine wave inverters

October 2010 Electrical Power & Protection

Meanwell has introduced two new high performance DC/AC true sine wave inverters TN/TS-3000 (3000 W) series. Along with existing products TS-200, TS-400, TS-700, TS-1000 and TS/TN-1500 the company can now provide a true sine wave inverter family from 200 to 3000 W for various users requirements. Designed using high frequency topology, TN/TS-3000 series are light weight and offer efficiency up to 92%. They can provide 3000 W continuously for a variety of load conditions with low total harmonic distortion. Peak load capability including 3450 W for 3 minutes, 4500 W for 10 seconds, or 6000 W surge power for 30 utility cycles.

TS-3000 is a typical power inverter that switches DC input to AC output. TN-3000 also has built-in AC and solar chargers. It can charge external battery banks from AC utility or solar panels and then transform to AC output via its inverter stage. Equipped with two operation modes (UPS and energy saving mode), TN-3000 provides the flexibility for end users to select a suitable operating status based on the weather condition as well as special application requirements. Under UPS mode, AC utility input can charge the batteries and bypass to the output device. Like a typical UPS system, the batteries supply power to the inverter when the AC is off. In energy saving mode, and coupled with solar panels, energy from the sun can be stored in the battery bank to reduce utility consumption and the associated costs.

TN/TS-3000 are microprocessor controlled and their AC output voltage can be adjusted through the front panel or optional monitoring software. Protection is provided for battery shutdown and reverse polarity, short circuit, inverter overload and over temperature. The units are suitable for powering home appliances, power tools, and office and portable equipment in vehicles, yachts, mobile homes or places that the utility cannot reach or the power quality is poor.
