480 W DIN rail supply

September 2010 Electrical Power & Protection

Mean Well has expanded its WDR family of single phase AC/DC slim DIN rail power with the introduction of the 480 W WDR-480 series. Built-in active PFC function ensures high-efficiency units that meet the harmonic current limitation per EN61000-3-2. Equipped with 180 to 550 VAC input range, they can be used in general power system applications with single phase 230 VAC input or can capture one phase from the 330-550 VAC three-phase power supply for increased flexibility of system deployment.

The series operates at up to 93% efficiency and can provide 480 W continuously at ambient temperatures of 50°C using only free air convection cooling. Operation at 70°C is possible with suitable power derating. Standard functions include DC OK output relay alarm signal, front panel DC voltage adjustment and protection for short-circuit, overload (constant current mode, shut down if over 3 seconds), over-voltage, and over-temperature. WDR-480 series comply with UL508, IEC60950-1 (CB), and CE certificates and also meet the EMC requirements of heavy industrial immunity level (EN61000-6-2).

The slim design (85 mm in width) saves space on the rail in applications that include industrial control systems, semiconductor fabrication equipment, factory automation, electro-mechanical applications, and marine-related installations.
