Kübler has expanded its draw wire series with versions that measure 0,25 to 40 metres. This system is designed to work with sensors and encoders with analogue outputs, such as 0-10 V, 4-20 mA and potentiometers, as well as incremental (push-pull and RS422), absolute (SSI and BISS) and fieldbus (CANopen, Profibus, DeviceNet and EtherCat) interfaces.
At the core of a draw wire device is a drum mounted on bearings, onto which a wire is wound. The winding takes place using a constant force spring that results in high traverse speed of up to 10 m/s. A long service life, approximately 2 million cycles, is achievable with the draw wire encoders.
The robust draw wire system is constructed in a titanium anodised aluminium housing using a stainless-steel wire with a diameter of 0,5 mm. The wire experiences no wear due to a diamond-polished ceramic guide. A wide temperature range of -20 to 85°C (options available with -40 to 90°C range), as well as the optional IP67 protection rating, permit use in difficult environmental conditions. The systems have a linearity of up to 0,05° and can be supplied with the relevant calibration certificate.
