Machine safety

March 2010 Sensors & Transducers

New concept for door interlocking.

Interlocking devices are solutions used to protect operators from dangerous machinery and represent an important element to be integrated during the early stages of machine conception. Comitronic markets a range of tamperproof coded safety switches based on electronic functionality and incorporating internal relays to avoid additional wiring on the safety module. VIGILGUARD covers needs that have been identified by customers over time, and who have benefited from its reliable technology. Its high switching power suits the majority of machines in industries such as packaging, palletising, sawing, robotics and food.

A reliable locking solution

When energised, the coded bolt is activated and detected by the coded strike head, which then actuates the safety contacts. To allow the machine to start, the coded bolt must be inserted in the coded strike head. The process does not require a mechanical dead bolt so there is no wear, therefore the life expectancy is over 10 000 000 cycles.

A monitored locking system

Fitted with internal relays, VIGILGUARD reaches the highest safety level PL4e according to ISO EN 13849-1, or cat 4 as per EN954-1 without having to be wired to a safety module. The redundancy of the safety lines, self checking, manual reset and unlocking system allows the device to be totally independent and safe.

The three LEDs give operators an overview of the state of the switch and allow fast maintenance:

* Power on/door unlocked.

* Door locked.

* Eco mode/stand by.

The system can be connected to a speed controller to check the motion of a motor and then authorise access to the dangerous area. Its compact housing in Grivory (plastic reinforced with glass fibre) makes it an ideal solution for daisy chaining up to 30 interlocks on a safety relay.
