Schneider Electric’s Magelis HMI controller optimises machine design.

Schneider Electric’s latest HMI (human machine interface) controller, the Magelis XBT GC, is saving companies up to 15% on machine design, setup, operation and maintenance compared to equivalent PLC and terminal solutions.

The new Magelis unit combines human machine interface and control system functions in one single compact product. The high level of integration enables it to meet the requirements for compact machines in line with the flexible machine control approach, which significantly simplifies the design of control system equipment. While the economical design helps reduce costs throughout the machine lifecycle, regardless of the length of production runs or the level of customisation.

“Our range of Magelis HMIs has been fine-tuned to become more powerful, easier to use and more affordable. Today, it is much more than just a visual device indicating the status of the machine to which it is connected, in fact, it provides a powerful link between processes, control systems, operators and databases. Some of the most complex tasks can now be performed remotely with seamless integration into selected systems,” says Stephen Gerber, product manager at Schneider Electric South Africa.

The Magelis XBT GC offers all the benefits of a Schneider Electric controller including SoMachine configuration software for machine automation, modular I/O, a Telefast wiring system, a high speed, multitasking processor and communication networks that enable simultaneous control in multinetwork architectures.

It can adapt to the topology of most machines thanks to a choice of connections, including USB, serial link, CANopen and Ethernet. Through these ports, it allows application downloads and connection to a variety of peripherals for easy updates and upgrades, and is interchangeable with Magelis XBT GT terminals.

In addition, it can be bundled with Vijeo Designer, an operator dialogue configuration tool that offers advanced functions such as multilingual support, the sharing of variables as well as terminal and programmable controller simulations, making the Magelis XBT GC an ultra-flexible solution to match a wide variety of system requirements.
