Emerson Process Management has introduced the Rosemount 3051S MultiVariable transmitter which measures three variables and provides mass and energy flow output, reducing the number of devices traditionally required to make DP flow measurement from 10 to one.

Apart from simplifying mass and energy flow measurement the unit has increased accuracy and provides faster updates through patented, advanced compensation techniques. The user enters three application parameters and the Engineering Assistant software does the rest. The 3051 provides full compensation of over 25 different parameters to achieve a five times improvement in flow performance compared to uncompensated differential pressure flow. This includes Joule-Thomson correction and sensor matching with Callendar-Van Dusen constants. The transmitter updates flow measurement 22 times per second so users can more effectively track production, demand, and total usage for process gas, steam, and natural gas. The results are more accurate billing, immediate detection of anomalies that lead to losses, and optimisation of product throughput and quality during peaks in demand.

Users can specify the level of compensation that best matches the application, scaled to optimise flow measurement in four different categories:

* Full compensation (differential pressure, line pressure, and temperature measurement) for gas, natural gas or steam.

* Differential and line pressure measurement for saturated steam.

* Differential pressure and temperature measurement for liquids or saturated steam.

* Differential pressure measurement for liquids at stable temperatures.

To achieve even better results, the transmitter can be paired with a Rosemount primary element to create the 3051SF flowmeter. The Rosemount 3051SFA Annubar flowmeter requires only a single pipe penetration for installation, minimising costs in large line sizes. Annubar sensors create fewer blockages in the pipe than industry standard orifice plates, leading to an energy cost reduction in pumping, compression and fuel.

The 3051SFC Compact Orifice flow meter is easily installed between existing flanges with use of an integral centre ring and minimises straight run requirements with conditioning technology.

The 3051SFP Integral Orifice flowmeter with self-centring orifice plate and precision honing improves accuracy in small line sizes. All Rosemount 3051SF flowmeters arrive fully configured, leak-tested and ready-to-install thereby reducing potential leak points and preventing fugitive emissions by up to 70% for better protection of the environment.

Rosemount 3051S MultiVariable transmitters are part of Emerson’s broad range of intelligent, digital field devices that power the PlantWeb architecture. Further cost savings, increased plant availability, and enhanced safety and environmental compliance are achieved when the transmitters are integrated into the PlantWeb digital plant platform.
