Rotary MCD series allows electronic range adjustment.
Many applications use cost-efficient analogue interfaces to detect rotary motion. If more than one revolution must be registered, users can choose between wear-intensive multiturn potentiometers, and wear-free hall sensors requiring a complex gear reduction system. By integrating an analogue current or voltage interface into the single-turn and multiturn MAGNETOCODE encoders (MCD), POSITAL provides an elegant solution to this problem.
The competitively priced encoders offer an alternative to multiturn potentiometers thanks to contact-free recording of angular position and revolution with no wear. The fact that MCD encoders allow electronic adjustment of the measuring range enables users to use the complete voltage scale to record measurements. The units are configured by moving the encoders into the desired end positions, which are then stored in the encoder by means of a ‘teach’ input. The measured values between these positions are scaled automatically.
The single-turn sensor provides a maximum resolution of 12 bits per turn, while being able to register any number of revolutions. Current absolute position values are stored permanently even without voltage supply, and are provided instantly after activation.
The MCD encoder’s internal component is a Wiegand wire with a coil wound around it. The Wiegand wire generates the energy required for registering revolutions from the rotary motion – neither continuous rotation nor a minimum number of revolutions are necessary. The magnetic principle not only enables a robust, wear-free design and compact dimensions but also makes the encoders cost effective to use. Available as solid and hollow shaft versions, the encoders, which have a diameter of 36,5 mm, are also suitable for applications with limited installation space.
