Schneider release Vijeo Citect V7.10

June 2009 SCADA/HMI

Schneider Electric has equipped version 7.10 of Vijeo Citect with Windows integrated security and support for Microsoft Windows Vista and Windows Server 2008.

Windows security integration allows for easier maintenance of Vijeo Citect as it is no longer necessary to create and maintain dual user accounts within the scada system and the network. Instead, users are simply added to the operating system and their account is available across the scada system.

“While most companies’ control systems are unlikely to be migrating to Vista in the short term, the increasing reliance on external resources means that your control system platform must be ready for any current Windows platform,” says Peter Hogg, product director, Vijeo Citect.

Vijeo Citect V7.10 incorporates a number of new features designed to reduce the duplicated effort spent programming the scada system. One feature is SpeedLink, reducing duplication of scada configuration (tags, alarms, trends and accumulators) by utilising the control system definition already defined in the PLCs.

Compliance can be easily achieved with the Dual Signature functionality within Vijeo Citect V7.10, enhancing security by providing a second level of authorisation for actions.

“Dual signatures are not just for regulated industries,” explains Hogg. “The greatest risk to security is a mistake, for instance a supervisor who forgets to log out and an operator keen to show his process knowledge. Using dual signatures for supervisor actions ensures that supervisor actions are protected but no elevated rights persist.

Enhancements have also been made to the custom alarm fields within Vijeo Citect V7.10. This functionality provides guidance on actions to be taken as a result of an alarm, easy disabling of alarms for maintenance and improved filtering capability.

“Alarm management is also becoming a primary concern for control system operators seeking to achieve optimum output from their systems,” says Hogg. “Situations with too many alarms can lead to critical system failures, as well as overwhelm operators and impose on their ability to prioritise and focus on optimal operation.”

Other upgrades in this release of Vijeo Citect include redundant time administration where all PC clocks running on Vijeo Citect clients and servers can be synchronised.
