Vibration measurement on pumping equipment.
Pumps and pumping stations are often installed in locations that are remote or difficult to access making predictive/preventive maintenance strategies one of the most effective ways to maintain optimal plant performance.
Historically, these strategies required processes to be shut down on a routine basis for visual inspection of the machinery. This proved costly since even scheduled shutdowns of continuous processes are expensive. Constant monitoring, which permits timely and cost-effective operational and maintenance decisions, is a better solution.
Vibration analysis is the most informative and cost effective of the non-disruptive monitoring technologies for rotating machinery. It can show the condition of all moving parts associated with an individual pump or pumping station, helping to identify problem conditions before they become serious. Vibration analysis can assist in determining the exact nature of the problem allowing the necessary spare parts to be ordered in advance of the scheduled repair, enabling both management and engineers to adopt a proactive approach to maintenance.
Consequently, water companies and equipment suppliers are now firm advocates of vibration monitoring and analysis as a method for assessing the performance of pumps and other rotating or moving equipment.
