Capacitive 'see-through' sensors

March 2009 Sensors & Transducers

ifm electronic’s type KG5067 and KG5069 capacitive sensors are designed to detect conductive media through non-metal walls or on bypasses. The medium to be detected must have a dielectric constant >20. Typical applications are the detection of minimum levels, leakage or overflow of tanks.

A special feature is the new operating concept: adjustment to the medium and setting of the output function NC or NO are carried out by one push of the button. The automatic load detection of the switching output simplifies configuration and set-up with different evaluation systems. (PNP or NPN inputs at the external electronics are automatically detected.)

The units are designed for non-flush installation and have a sensing range of 2–14 mm. All units have a 2 m long PVC connection cable with an LED integrated into the housing to indicate the switching status.

The units operate from a 10-36 V d.c. supply voltage.

Telco sensors in the pulp and paper industry
Gail Norton Instrumentation Sensors & Transducers
The pulp and paper industry poses a major problem for most photoelectric sensors. The high level of contamination in these dusty, dirty and grimy environments makes it impossible for most competing sensors to operate and sense reliably and efficiently.

Always keeping an eye on the measured values
ifm - South Africa Electrical Power & Protection
Despite growing digitalisation, there are still many situations where analogue measured values such as the level in a tank or the temperature of a climatised room must be directly readable in the control cabinet or at the control desk. The current loop display is designed for precisely this purpose.
