Banner Engineering presents its first fully metal stainless steel ultrasonic barrier sensor for aseptic applications.

The fully encapsulated M25U is completely enclosed in stainless steel – including both the housing and sonic converter face – and complies with degrees of protection IP68/IP69K. Thus the ultrasonic barrier sensor consisting of both transmitter and receiver is particularly suitable for detection of bottles and containers in aseptic applications, such as bottling operations.

The M25U fully fulfils all demands relating to hygienic design in the beverage, food and pharmaceutical industries. The stainless steel enclosure is not just resistant to chemicals and aggressive cleaning agents, but is also resistant to temperature shocks. It is possible for example, after cleaning with 60°C hot water to rinse with 10°C cold water without damaging the sensor.

The ultrasonic barrier sensor is adjustable to two sensitivities: Objects with a minimum diameter of 30 mm are detected up to a range of 1 m at higher sensitivity – for objects from 15 mm diameter the maximum range is 40 cm. With a switching frequency of 100 Hz the ultrasonic barrier sensor can detect up to 100 objects per second.

Ultrasonic sensors use ultrasonic waves in the 140 kHz range for noncontact and wear-free detection of a large variety of objects. It does not matter whether the object is transparent or opaque, metallic or non-metallic, or of liquid, solid or powdery consistency. Environmental conditions such as spray, dust or rain hardly affect their function.
